The Ultimate Packing Guide for Fragile Cargo

July 20, 2026

Protect your fragile shipments with these professional packing techniques and materials used by logistics experts.

Choose the Right Packaging Materials

The right packaging materials are essential for protecting fragile items. Use double-walled corrugated boxes for strength, bubble wrap for cushioning, and foam inserts or packing peanuts to fill empty space and prevent movement during transit.

For particularly delicate items, consider custom crating or specialized packaging designed for the specific product.

Wrap and Cushion Properly

Wrap each item individually in bubble wrap, paying extra attention to corners and edges. Use at least 2-3 inches of cushioning material on all sides of the item. Ensure the item cannot move within the box, as movement is a leading cause of damage.

Label Clearly

Mark your package with 'FRAGILE' labels on all sides and include 'THIS SIDE UP' arrows where appropriate. Clear labeling helps handlers take extra care with your shipment.

Consider Insurance

Even with the best packing, accidents can happen. Consider purchasing shipping insurance for high-value or irreplaceable items to protect against loss or damage.
